Juicy Co-Tour

Blah Blah Blah

Microphone check uno, dos
Yep, back again for another blah recap.  This one is going to be short, sweet, and to the point.  Keith Ruckus just wants you to like him, just like the overall theme of his poetry. And take my word for it, there is much to like about him.  Coming from Austin’s dense with talent poetry scene, the ability to stand out must be difficult.  With the likes of Ebony Stewart, Lacey Roop, Dny Strack, Good Ghost Bill and other nationally recognized performance poets who call Austin home, Ruckus has been working diligently to raise his profile.  He is crass and abrasive in person sometimes, but that is because he really wants to stand out.  He is memorable and talented, and has come a long way; and I’m sure the Juicy Co. Tour will be a success, once it lands in places that are not “The asshole of Texas”.
Megan Moten is playing Christian Bale to Ruckus’ Heath Ledger (Bet you didn’t see a Dark Knight reference coming).  A dynamic writer, she brought a range of topics from break ups to being a kid raised in a military family. She was quite enjoyable and hopefully we see her again.  I was impressed by the Juicy co-tour and it looks and we were thankful they lifted off their east coast tour in San An.  More on both poets in the link below.

Blah had an amazing turnout of new poets to share with us.  We were glad to have Lexi, Joseph, and Wasabi come back to read.  Our bevy of regular poets brought as much ruckus as K, and, when it was all said and done, the poetry was top shelf.  Many thanks to all who brought out their talents, we’re back on June 4th with the 2013 San An Puro Slam Team.  They’re representing us in Boston, MA this year at the national poetry slam.  Come out and help them raise funds to get there.  One love.

Microphonecheck 1.2 what is this?? #hiphopheadsknow
Blah cameback to kick of the 1st of May, aka: the first day of winter, thispast Wednesday.  The evening was warm enough;but had we known that the words of the sacred poets would beckon winter back toSan Antonio, we would have called the whole thing off.  Who am I kidding, no we wouldn’t.
This recapis coming at you like a Tarantino flick! It will be out of chronological order, certain motifs may come back throughout the recap, and it will be filled with onomonopia.  Bang!

J Alejandrohosted the evening readings (or did he?) dedicated to covering the poets who’veinspired us along the way.  We heardeverything from Shane Koyczan to Emerson, Bukowsk, to Slug of Atmosphere.

The BlahSpot was taken over by new voices, all coming out to share some incrediblepieces.  We had Lexi, Adam, Fury, Margo,Alex, and Stephanie. Along with familiar but new to our mic, Joseph andTimeka.

J kicked offthe evening, reading a cover poem (or did he!!!??). I (Rooster) then followed coveringa poem by the recently departed Jack McCarthy.

Back to Blahfriend of Blah, Joseph, covered lyrics by Axl Rose and shared 2 other originalworks. Reading an original piece that let kids know how little adults truly know.  He’s funny and insightful. No lie, I’mbecoming a fan.

Blah crewmember and all around badass, Mike Gomez covered Dave Chappelle’s How I got thelead on Jeopardy as well as Kedrick Lamar’s Opposites attract.  Pew Pew!!

New to Blah,Adam read Bluebird-by Charles Bukowski, and Prides Paranoia by Slug.  As wellas an incredible display of word play in his original piece-I don’t like myskin today.

Youth poetand in danger to having J Alejandro copy her hairstyle, Lexi, performed a pieceby Shane Koyczan as well as two original pieces-Runaway; and Public SchoolTeacher.  Very awesome wordsmith, we can’twait to have her back.

Fury, an MCat heart, read a quote by Emerson “What lies behind us and before us are tinymatters, to what lies within us”, as well as his own original hot fyah words ofwisdom.  Dude was nice on the mic forsure.

Margo shareda very personal piece that if you were not there to appreciate, you missed out.  We thank you kindly for sharing and hope tosee you again.

Stephaniewants her stuff back. Again, you had to be there, but it was a piece that wasas awesome as her shoe game.  Please comeback and join us again.

DiamondMason read: Dear Universe, by our last feature E. Stewart.  A beautiful rendition that hushed theaudience into amazement.

TimekaStephens read the first poem she remembers being taught, entitled: TheIncident. She’s been a humongous supporter of poetry and art here in SanAntonio, it was a great feeling to hear her sharing with us.  We are very thankful.

Last to berecapped, but certainly not the least, Alex of Acoustic Sexytime joined ourpoetic festivities and read a piece that was…well…click the link and see foryourself.  But it was definitely sexytimeon the Blah mic.

A ton ofthanks to all the poets who joined us, thanks to the audience who came out, andthanks goes to Deco Pizzeria for having us out. We come back on May 15th, were we will be joined by specialguest: K-Ruckus and Megan Moten.  Itpromises to be a good time as these poets travel from Austin to S.A., bringingtheir incredible stylings before they head out on tour.  Be there, be blah, one love. BLAMO
Stay warm.

Microphonechecka uno dos.
Howdy…
Letme preface this entire recap by saying this-If you are reading the recapbecause you weren’t there, I cannot, CANNOT, stress how much you missed out. Whew…andnow, the recap.
Supall, this is Rooster sending positive vibrations to yall. The times have beencrazy, peace to Boston and West, TX. We are keeping yall in our hearts. ThisWednesday the Blah Blah Blah Poetry Spot was back at Deco Pizzeria, this timewe brought the big guns.  Friend of Blahand all around bad ass, Ebony Stewart was our special guest and she did notdisappoint.  Ebony split the cosmic time continuumto give the people what they want- the real, the honest, vulnerable, and captivatingpoetry.
JAlejandro started the fire as host of the affair.  He read his poem; POP QUIZ: What piece did Jread? I’ll answer it in the comments if you are right. Prizes probably won’thappen but if you’re like me you believe, if you’re not first you’re last. Theevening began with a new face to the Blah stage, Joseph brought one part LouisCK banter with 3 parts poetry. He rallied into a detailed diatribe extollingthe nuance of life in America as seen from the perspective of a pot smoking…Idunno what, to be honest he lost me a few times, but I LIKED IT! Don Mathisjoined us again, reading a poem he penned about the imbalance between male andfemale equality in the eyes of society (to put it lightly). The Sun Poetbrought the haha’s followed by Paul bringing his Balls. Again.  Why DON’T Paul’s balls have a ribbon insupport of their existence? Ask Paul. Michael Gomez sent healing love in thedirection of Boston and West, before reading a completely unrelated poem about stalkingor love (depending on your emotional and/or legal perspective).
Thewonderful co-runner of 2nd Verse and lovely, Vocab, kicked in theReberta Flack’s Killing me Softly.
Asshe merc’d the mic with her nijato vocal skillz.
*AgainI’ll stress, if you weren’t here, you MISSED OUT!
Travisbrought the crunk with Kronk. Rayner left a voicemail to God.  Friend of Blah and the S.A. poetry scene,P-16 shredded the microphone. New to Blah: Kelvin Easley dropped some knowledgeabout the rising murder rates of black teens in America.
Andto top it all off, Ebony.  She was spectacularand let the Universe bring the hugs and cupcakes. She brought her new book “LoveLetters to a Balled Fist” and read excerpts from the new collection.
She sold out of books at the event but anybodyinterested in purchasing one can still do so at: http://www.ebpoetry.com/products-page/books/
That was the long and short of it.  I am 460 words into this and National PoetryMonth is murdering my free time.  A goodproblem to have none the less; but still, I hope all who came out enjoyed.  If I forgot any poets in the recap, forgiveme. I was also working to make sure people got their food orders beforemidnight. Peace one love. Stay up to date on our Facebook page as we are havinga number of writing workshops and performances around town.
Love
