NEW WRITING SERIES!

Utilizing one’s voice is not simply a matter of what you say but how you use your words that determines their effectiveness. As teenagers, this lesson and responsibility to harness one’s voice could not be more imperative. Voice & Verse is a teen writing series intended on helping teens find and capture their creative literary voices. Christopher “Rooster” Martinez and Anastacio Palomo will be hosting the workshops at Forest Hills Library with a focus on reading, various types of poetry writing, journal writing, and performance poetry. The workshops will look at the works of contemporary writers and performance poets such as: Derrick Brown, Anthony Flores, Andrea Gibson, and others. Writing prompts and group sharing exercises will take place and the teen writers will be encouraged to share/display their own works.

Christopher “Rooster” Martinez is a three time member of the San Antonio National Poetry Slam Team, co-captain of the 2012 slam team, has published two poetry chapbooks and a new e-book to be released in summer, and is a co-founder of the Blah Blah Blah Poetry Spot.
